February 8
Dear Editor:
The DFW Tornados Soccer Club has been dragged into a classic no-win situation by the two residents over the “lighting dispute” at the Covenant Church fields.
The lights are, understandably, annoying.
The description of “stadium lighting” makes it sound like the practice facility is lit up like Mustang-Panther stadium. This is truly not the case.
The lights are aligned to pacify residents who live across Roberts Road. The residents whose backyards abut the practice fields and live even closer are accepting of the lighting.
Between Grapevine and Colleyville, there are not enough practice facilities available to all the soccer and football teams.
Many of the city facilities and fields are not open to the club for practices, so they are forced to rent and maintain their own practice fields.
The parents and athletes of the club are trying to be a to pacify and accommodate the residents across from the church practice fields.
I’m not sure that they’ll ever be able to make them happy — other than holding the practices elsewhere.
