Grapevine Official to Discuss Park History, Historical Sites
By Margaret Harper
Grapevine Historical Society
Joe Moore, the assistant director of parks and recreation, will speak at the Grapevine Historical Society monthly meeting, on Nov. 24.
Moore will discuss the history of the Grapevine parks and discuss their future. He will also talk in detail about some of the more notable historic sites in the area, including the dinosaur tracks and mammoth head uncovered near Grapevine Lake.
Last month John Kalvelage presented his collection of war memorabilia at the meeting, with accompanying stories. Kalvelage said his fascination with the subject began in second grade when his father was stationed in the Philippines. Since then he has accumulated a large collection of war-related items from many different periods of American history dating back to the Civil War era.
The New Year will begin with Dr. Paul Benson, speaking about the King Tut exhibit in Dallas. The society does not have a December meeting.
All Grapevine Historical Society meetings are scheduled on the fourth Monday of the month at the Grapevine Public Library. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
