Pickup Hits Boy Near Dove Park

Staff Writer

A 10-year-old Grapevine boy was struck by a pickup Monday night as he was walking across Dove Road near Dove Park.

The truck hit the boy about 9:30 p.m. Monday on Dove Road between Park Boulevard and Hood Lane as the boy was crossing from the park to a large apartment complex on the south side of the street.

"He was struck by a vehicle in the eastbound lanes," said Sgt. Kim Smith, Grapevine Police Department spokesman.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to one of the Cook Children’s hospitals by ground ambulance, Smith said, and he is now listed in good condition. Smith said she did not know exactly what the boy’s injuries were.

Witnesses said a male teenage driver struck the boy, who was not crossing in a pedestrian crosswalk. One witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the boy did not appear to be wearing any reflective clothing or shoes.

Smith said Grapevine police are investigating the incident, but no charges have been filed.
