Heritage United Methodist Church of Grapevine and Congregation Beth Israel of Colleyville recently experienced a mutual pulpit and congregation exchange.

The Rev. Randy Scrivener of Heritage UMC and church members were invited to worship at Congregation Beth Israel’s Friday evening Shabbat service.

GHS Fillies Director State Award Finalist

Kay Lynn Renfro, director of the Grapevine High School Fabulous Fillies dance team, has been selected as a finalist for the Texas Dance Educators Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Renfro is one of three finalists for the award and will be honored at the annual TDEA convention in January, when the winner will be named.

Colleyville Teen Scottish Rite Champion

Colleyville resident Nichola Kouzes, 17, has been selected as one of the 2008 patient champions by the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and will participate in activities at the Dallas White Rock Marathon on Dec. 14.

The Grapevine High School senior has been a patient at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital since her first year of life. Nichola, a familiar face in Colleyville — and a familiar voice — has never let the fact that she was born with an undeveloped right arm and hand slow her down

While traditional retail stores like Nordstrom’s, Macy’s and even Target have seen their profits slide with the economic free-fall, resale, consignment and thrift stores have thrived.

Resale shops in Northeast Tarrant County, and Grapevine in particular, have seen anywhere from a 20 percent to 100 percent increase in sales over the past year, much of it in the last few months.

The annual Celebrate Colleyville holiday event complete with Santa and a snow hill, will begin on Friday this year to allow three days of holiday events in the city, officials said.

"We changed it to give ourselves a full holiday weekend," said Colleyville Communications Director Mona Gandy.

The free program titled Musically Speaking, takes place at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 100 Tinker Road in Colleyville.

On a rainy Monday morning, 102-year-old Grapevine resident Margaret Dickson got into her car and drove to her biweekly weight-lifting and strength-building class at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center.

Ever since she fell and broke her leg last fall, she uses a cane to get around, but that does not stop her from getting to class not only on time on this rainy morning, but early. She’s sharp, interested in life, and active.

CHHS Presents Annual Children’s Theatre Workshop

The Colleyville Heritage High School Theatre Department will present the 5th Annual Children’s Theatre Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All activities will take place at the high school, 5401 Heritage Ave., in Colleyville.

Participants in grades K-5 will enjoy theatre games, activities and the opportunity to be a star in a holiday production. They will have the opportunity to learn more about theatre from students in the high school theater program.

The Colleyville Lions Club and Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange (GRACE) worked with local doctors in Southlake and Colleyville to provide comprehensive eye exams and eye glasses to 39 people on Nov. 15.

Dr. Kasey Holdridge and Dr. Beth Digby at the Clearview Eyecare and Laser Center in Southlake hosted the event, and they were assisted by Dr. Richard Driscoll with Total Eye Care in Colleyville. Holdridge and Driscoll are also members of the club.

Trustee Asks, but Doesn’t Get Campus Results

Jorge Rodriguez Wants Test Stats, School Board Votes to Deny Request

Jorge Rodriguez, Grapevine-Colleyville school board trustee, requested more campus-level detail from the annual accountability report than has been provided to the board, but his request was denied by the board with a 4-3 vote.

GCISD board trustees Jesse Rodriguez, Lisa Hall, Vicki Thomas and Charlie Warner voted to deny the request. Nancy Coplen and Leon Leal joined Jorge in voting for it.
