As part of American Diabetes Month, a free diabetes educational event will take place on Saturday morning, Nov. 1, at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 S. White Chapel Blvd in Southlake. This event is a joint effort by Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange [GRACE] and Tarrant County Diabetes Collaboration.
Many communities across the country are organizing events and creating awareness about diabetes, said Griselle B. Estrada, a nurse manager at the GRACE Outreach to Health Community Clinic.
Estrada said the Nov. 1 event in Southlake will include people with diabetes speaking about how they live with the disease. An estimated 24 million people in the United States have diabetes, or about 8 percent of the population. About a quarter of these people are unaware they have the disease, according to the American Diabetes Association.
Call 817-488-7009, ext. 146 to reach Estrada, or e-mail her at gestrada@gracegrapevine.org to register for the event. Pre-registration is required.
