Larre’s Corner

Nothing says welcome like a warm fire … although, I don’t believe it is supposed to be in the front yard!

Just recently, Rob and Kelli Henderson moved to their new abode in Southlake. The Hendersons aren’t new to the area; in fact, this was just a local change of address for them.

However after moving in, someone tossed some type of lit item out of a vehicle and it hit their trashcan. But before you could say, "S’mores anyone?" the amazing Southlake Fire Department had arrived.

Thankfully, the fire was easily contained to the trashcan, and the only real loss was the mailbox, which got singed. Keeping a positive attitude, Mrs. Henderson remarked that the important thing was that nobody got hurt and even the mailbox has since been repaired. Clearly, Ms. Henderson’s luck wasn’t affected by this event because just this past Sunday at the Carroll Education Foundation annual Culinary Celebration at The Hyatt Regency DFW, she won the Ladies 30-inch strand-of-pearl necklace donated by those wonderful folks over at Grayson Allen jewelers.

Which brings me to this great event.

In the past, I have written glowing reviews of this program, and this year is no different. I must say that in the world of fundraising, this one has truly maintained its level of quality. From the well-stocked silent auction to the top-notch, unique items on their big board and live auction. Of course, the event is a culinary celebration and with more than 30 of the top restaurants and eateries in the D/FW area serving up generous portions of their signature delights, Velcro and elastic are acceptable fashion choices. Just as each year in the past, I was knocked over by the list of top dining establishments represented, from the Silver Fox, to Bob’s Steak & Chop House, to Cool River and even The Mansion on Turtle Creek!

I do want to suggest that next year they play some type of background music prior to the live auction. Music would definitely add to the fun factor and drown out the clanking of plates.

The final dollars have yet to be announced, but I can tell you, this was another successful event for the Carroll Education Foundation.

Readers, if you remember a few weeks ago I told you about an organization making some exciting changes to their annual event. Here is another clue … the location is what makes this event a definite "must" on the calendar.

It will be at a place that hosts one of the most prestigious fashion awards in the country. Additionally, this organization joins a very select group to even host an event at this location and is the first in Tarrant County ever to do so in the venue’s 50-year history. Figured it out yet?
